Two people were arrested yesterday following a report that packages containing prohibited items had been thrown over the fence at Erlestoke prison yesterday afternoon.
Following the initial report, enquiries were conducted which found that a vehicle had been observed in the vicinity of the prison shortly after 1pm.
A description of the suspect vehicle was passed to officers who quickly located it in the Swindon area.
A man in his 30’s from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, while a second man in his 20’s from Swindon was arrested on suspicion of conveying a prohibited article into prison.
Both remain in custody at Gablecross for further questioning.
The packages, which contained mobile phones and drugs, were located and seized by the prison as part of the police investigation. Police enquiries are still ongoing.
