Two arrests in first 24 hours of ‘arrest car’ initiative in Swindon

Two domestic abuse suspects wanted in Swindon have been arrested in the first 24 hours of a new ‘arrest car’ pilot in the town.

The double-crewed vehicle is a dedicated resource to carry out enquiries and track down high risk outstanding suspects in the Swindon area.

The pilot project will run for three months initially with the aim of improving the way in which the Force manages outstanding suspects.

Superintendent Adrian Burt said: “This a really positive first day for the trial and as a dedicated resource I expect it to fasten the pace in which we’re able to track down high risk suspects and investigate crimes.

“If the trial proves successful then we could look to expand the initiative across the county.”

Both suspects remain in custody at this time:

  • A 29-year-old man on suspicion of rape and common assault
  • A 37-year-old man, from Toothill,  on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm
