Two men have been arrested following a dramatic police chase through Swindon in the early hours of Sunday morning (9th February).
The pursuit, which began after officers spotted a vehicle driving erratically off the M4, ended with a crash on Tydeman Street.
At around 1.40am, police observed a Vauxhall Insignia exit the motorway at high speed and swerve across Great Western Way. Officers noted the smell of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle and attempted to pull the driver over. However, rather than stopping, the driver accelerated, weaving dangerously across roads, pavements, and even off-road before colliding with multiple bollards.
The chase came to an abrupt end when the vehicle crashed into another bollard and struck a subway wall. Officers quickly detained two men at the scene.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, and failing to provide a specimen for analysis. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
The passenger, Jahred Tafari, 25, of Beech Avenue, was found in possession of cannabis and has been charged accordingly. He is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on 19th March.
Police are urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward as their enquiries remain ongoing.
