Trek the Great Wall of China with Julia’s House Children’s Hospice Charity

Adventure-seeking fundraisers are invited to explore one of the world’s greatest wonders — and support local children’s hospice care — on a once-in-a-lifetime journey.

Julia’s House, the Wiltshire and Dorset children’s hospice charity, is inviting supporters to take part in an extraordinary fundraising adventure in 2026 — a nine-day expedition to the Great Wall of China.

Recently featured in Race Across the World, the Great Wall offers a dramatic blend of rugged landscapes, ancient watchtowers and rich cultural history. This exclusive charity trek gives participants the rare chance to explore remote and unspoiled sections of the Wall, far from the usual tourist routes.

“Trekkers will see views they’ll never forget and make friendships that will last a lifetime – the team spirit on our treks is inspiring,” said Hannah Mountford, Julia’s House Fundraiser. “And with every step in China, our intrepid trekkers can feel a huge sense of achievement, knowing they’re helping to change lives for seriously ill children and their families here at home.”

A Life-Changing Journey for a Life-Changing Cause

The Trek the Great Wall of China Challenge runs from Saturday 19 to Sunday 27 September 2026, and includes:

  • A five-day trek across historic, lesser-known sections of the Wall, including Simatai and Jinshanling, celebrated for their wild beauty and breathtaking views.

  • A guided tour of Beijing, including Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City.

  • Flights, accommodation, transfers, meals, and drinking water all included.

  • A farewell dinner, Julia’s House t-shirt and medal, and 24-hour support from expert local guides.

  • Optional extension trip to Xi’an to see the Terracotta Warriors.

Participants will also be invited to join free local training walks across Wiltshire and Dorset, helping build fitness and camaraderie before the big adventure.

Former trekker Lucy Mander recalled:

“It was such an incredible experience — definitely one for the bucket list. And doing it for such a great cause made it even more rewarding. The group became so close so quickly. The camaraderie was amazing; we all felt part of a team.”

Supporting Julia’s House

Julia’s House provides specialist nursing care and emotional support for children with life-limiting and complex medical conditions, and their families. The charity must raise £5.1 million each year to fund its services, with only 8% coming from Government funding.

“Our Trek the Great Wall challenge is such a unique experience,” said Hannah Mountford. “We do anticipate places will book up quickly, so we’re encouraging supporters to sign up early to avoid disappointment.”
