A flight from Perth to London taking 17 and a half hours looks set to become the world’s longest direct passenger route.
Qantas hopes the flights will get off the ground in March 2018 using its first long-range Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
The 9,000-mile flights would shadow the current longest journey, which is an Emirates flight from Dubai to Auckland lasting 16 hours and 35 minutes covering 8,823 miles.
According to The West Australian, Alan Joyce from Qantas is close to making a deal.
When Qantas first created the Kangaroo Route to London in 1947, it took four days and nine stops. Now it will take just 17 hours from Perth non-stop.
As well as this flight being set to be the longest ever direct flight, it will also be the second furthest in distance.
Air India currently holds the longest distance direct flight from Delhi to San Francisco covering 9,400 miles in just under 15 hours thanks to the jet streams.
Australia have never had a direct link to Europe before so this could open up a whole lot of opportunities.
Qantas will use Perth as a hub for passengers from eastern Australia going to Britain with the service said to boost employment and tourism.
As part of the plan, the state government is putting AUS$14million (£8.3million) into upgrading the airport terminal, including border control and quarantine facilities.
