Longleat invites visitors to build a miniature safari for its 60th anniversary

Visitors to Longleat will help bring a miniature safari to life this February half term as the Wiltshire estate marks six decades since it opened the world’s first drive-through safari outside Africa.

Ahead of LEGO® Brick Week, which runs from 14 to 22 February, tiny brick-built animals have begun appearing around the park, creating playful encounters between Longleat’s real-life residents and their miniature counterparts.

From inquisitive lorikeets and towering giraffes to elegant ostriches, the scenes offer a glimpse of what visitors can expect during the special week, when guests will be invited to design and build their own LEGO® creations. Animals, plants, trees and structures will all form part of an evolving brick safari that grows throughout the school holiday.

Scott Ashman, Head of Operations at Longleat, said the event reflects the creativity and imagination that have always shaped the estate.

He said: “Across the week, the brick safari will take shape as visitors add their own models, creating something completely unique.

“For younger children, there will also be a DUPLO® area where they can explore and build freely.

“It has been 60 years since we introduced the first safari outside Africa, and it’s exciting to see a new kind of safari taking shape with the help of our guests. The idea of wild animals roaming the Wiltshire countryside was once unheard of, and innovation has always been part of Longleat’s story.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing how the brick safari develops and the creativity people bring with them.”

Longleat reopens for the 2026 season on Saturday 31 January, operating from Friday to Sunday, with LEGO® Brick Week beginning on 14 February. Tickets are available via the Longleat website.
