Five Fixed Penalty Notices were also issued to people inside the pub who were failing to adhere to the current Covid-19 restrictions.

Supt Phil Staynings said: “This was completely unacceptable behaviour – three officers assaulted whilst going about their duties to ensure the public are keeping safe and adhering to the Government restrictions. Fortunately, none of them were seriously injured however they did suffer some pain and discomfort as a result of the incident.

“It is really disappointing to hear that not only are people flouting the rules at this time of great uncertainty but a complete disregard is being shown for our officers.”
