The meticulous operation saw the Nonsuch smoothly transported to its new home, with special thanks extended to Bevan Transport and Ellis Crane Hire for their expertise and assistance. Negotiating the logistics proved to be no small feat, with the crane maneuvering skillfully to turn around at the hard-standing by the slipway, while the lorry undertook the challenging task of reversing all the way to Marlborough Road.

Embarking on its inaugural journey along the Wilts & Berks Canal, the Nonsuch embarked on a memorable voyage, reaching Hancock’s Water before gracefully turning back towards Templars Firs.

The boat, christened Nonsuch, serves as a poignant tribute to the late Vic Miller, a dedicated member of the trust whose enduring legacy continues to support canal restoration projects and land acquisitions in the town.

In a statement issued by The Royal Wootton Bassett Branch Chair, Steve Bacon expressed anticipation for the Nonsuch’s role in enhancing the canal experience in Royal Wootton Bassett. “We are thrilled to welcome our new trip-boat, the Nonsuch, to Royal Wootton Bassett. Named in honour of Vic Miller, its arrival symbolises a new chapter in our efforts to preserve and celebrate our canal heritage,” Bacon remarked.

As preparations for the Nonsuch’s operation continue, opportunities are available for individuals interested in training as a skipper or crew member. Those wishing to get involved are encouraged to reach out to Steve Bacon via email at steve.bacon@wbct.org.uk.

The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust extends heartfelt appreciation to Lakeland Leisure, Bevan Transport, and Ellis Crane Hire for their invaluable contributions towards this milestone achievement.
