King Charles III will deliver his first Christmas address as UK monarch on Christmas Day where he is expected to pay tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
It will be the first time in almost 70 years that a King has delivered the traditional royal Christmas broadcast and King Charles will also make history as the first male monarch to give a televised Christmas speech to the nation.
Following in his mother’s footsteps, King Charles has pre-recorded his message, filming took place on Tuesday 13th December and it will be broadcast to the nation and other commonwealth countries on Christmas Day.
The specific content of the speech has not been revealed, but it is very likely that Charles will pay tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September, aged 96, reflecting on her years of service and her Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.
It is also expected he will talk about the Covid recovery, war in Ukraine and also the turbulent time in UK’s politics, with multiple Prime Ministers taking office through 2022.
What time is The King’s Speech 2022?
The King’s Speech is set to be broadcast at 3pm on Christmas Day, Sunday 25th December.
Previous speeches have generally lasted around 10 minutes and it is expected that this year’s speech will be a similar length.
The King’s Speech will be broadcast on BBC One, BBC Two, ITV and SkyNews. You can also watch the speech on the Royal Family’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
