Teens sentenced for robbery in Swindon

Three young men from Swindon were sentenced at Swindon Youth Court on 19th June 2018 for their roles in a robbery.

On Friday 8th June 2018, a 17 year old boy arranged to meet with the victim in Jubilee Gardens in order to buy some clothing the victim wanted to sell. The 17 year old texted him to say he would be late.

The victim started walking along Addinsell Road when he was approached by two 15 year old boys with the bottom half of their faces covered. They threatened him and demanded that he hand over the clothing. One of the boys then punched the victim in the face causing a nose bleed and walked quickly away.

The victim was able to get home and fortunately did not sustain any serious injury.

An investigation was launched and three suspects were quickly identified. The stolen clothing was later found in the 17 year old suspects home.

The trio, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in court and were charged jointly. After pleading guilty they were sentenced as follows:

15 year old – Youth rehabilitation order, curfew imposed, activity requirement (reparation), supervision order, victim surcharge of £20.00 and compensation of £50.00.

17 year old – Youth rehabilitation order, activity requirement (reparation), curfew imposed, supervision order.

The other 15 year old boy had also breached a Criminal Behaviour Order in relation to an unrelated matter and was remanded in youth detention for eight months and ordered to pay compensation of £50.00 plus a £30.00 victim surcharge.

The North Swindon Community Coordinator said, “I would like to thank all who have been involved, the Community Policing Teams, Youth Offending Team and other partner agencies for their continued work with those involved. The fact that an individual has continued to breach their Criminal Behaviour Order, and as a result is now in detention, will pay as a reminder to those who continue to conduct themselves in this manner.”
