An 18-year-old has been jailed for six months following a fight at a Tesco store in Liden, Swindon, that left staff fearing for their safety.
Kye Fox, 18, of Drakes Way, Walcot, pleaded guilty to affray and was sentenced this week at Swindon Crown Court to six months in prison and ordered to pay a victim surcharge.
On 29 December last year, officers were called to a report of two men fighting at the Tesco Express store.
It followed Fox being abusive and aggressive to customers and when asked to leave by a customer in his 50s, the 18-year-old has punched him, causing him to fall to the floor, before kicking him to the head.
Det Insp Matt Smith, from Operation Ager, which is tackling violent crime in Swindon, said: “This is another good result for the team and I hope it gives the community confidence that we are committed to dealing robustly with young people causing harm to our communities in Swindon.
“The actions of Fox on that day understandably caused much distress for the staff and the members of the public in the store and was a violent and thoughtless act.
“This will not be tolerated and we ask the local community to work with us to help us tackle this violent behaviour.”
