TEDx Railway Village Delivers a Powerful Day of Ideas and Connection in Swindon

A celebration of ideas, creativity and community spirit took place in Swindon last week as TEDx Railway Village welcomed speakers and guests for a day of thought-provoking talks and discussion.

Held under the theme “Lines of Connection”, the independently organised TEDx event brought together more than 50 attendees, alongside speakers, local organisations and community leaders, for a programme designed to explore the connections that shape people’s lives, communities and futures.

Organisers said the event created an atmosphere of reflection and optimism, with discussions ranging from business and science to creativity, heritage, ageing and social impact.

Across the day, 14 speakers took to the stage, each offering their own perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing individuals and communities. Together, the talks explored the ways in which ideas, relationships and shared experiences can help drive positive change.

Among those attending were civic figures including the Mayor of Swindon and the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, alongside representatives from the town’s creative, cultural and voluntary sectors.

Feedback following the event has been positive, with attendees praising both the range of speakers and the welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

The event was supported by a number of local organisations and businesses, including Swindon Dance, Swindon 105.5, Create Studios, GEL Studios, Tom Faulkner, Jordy’s Private Events & Catering and Advanced Printing Services UK Ltd.

Organisers Rob Jandy and Debbie Bryan said the event had been about more than simply hosting a series of talks.

“TEDx Railway Village was about creating space for Swindon’s ideas to be heard and valued,” they said.

“The energy in the room – from our speakers, our audience and our partners – was incredibly special. It felt like the beginning of something, not just a one-day event but the start of new conversations, collaborations and confidence in what Swindon can be.”

Among those attending was Tana Wollen, who highlighted the impact of the speakers and performances throughout the day.

“TEDx Railway Village was a genuinely special experience, bringing together powerful talks and performances that resonated long after the day,” she said.

“Highlights like Soumik Datta’s moving and captivating performance showed the strength of connection and storytelling woven throughout the event.”

For many involved, the event represented another example of Swindon’s growing confidence in its creative and cultural sector, providing a platform for local voices while encouraging new conversations about the town’s future.

All talks recorded during TEDx Railway Village are expected to be released on TED’s official YouTube channel in the coming weeks, allowing a wider audience to engage with the ideas shared on the day.
