Swindon Borough Council is inviting residents to have their say on local services and priorities through its annual Resident Survey. The survey, which runs from 12th August to 1st September 2024, offers Swindonians the chance to provide feedback on various aspects of council operations, including service satisfaction, community safety perceptions, and overall trust in the council.
This year’s survey follows the successful 2023 edition, which saw over 3,200 participants. Insights from that survey played a key role in shaping the recently finalised Swindon Plan, a long-term strategy aimed at fostering a fairer, better, and greener town. As financial pressures continue to mount, with over 80 per cent of the council’s budget allocated to social care, resident input is increasingly critical in guiding how limited resources are utilised.
The survey is available online at www.swindon.gov.uk/survey, and residents who prefer a paper copy can request one by contacting the council’s Customer Services team on 01793 445500. Assistance in completing the survey is also available over the phone. Additionally, Swindon’s core libraries—Central, Highworth, Park, North, and West Swindon—are offering facilities to complete the survey or pick up a paper copy.
To ensure a representative cross-section of the town’s population, a random sample of 7,000 households across various wards will receive a direct invitation to participate. The survey, which takes approximately ten minutes to complete, will remain anonymous to encourage honest feedback.
Councillor Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, stressed the importance of resident participation: “The Council exists to serve the people of Swindon, so it’s essential we hear from residents about what’s working well and where improvements are needed. This survey is a key tool for that, and the feedback will directly influence the ongoing delivery of the Swindon Plan.”
The results of the survey will be presented to the Council’s Cabinet later this year and will help shape future service priorities, ensuring that the council continues to meet the needs of Swindon’s diverse community.
