Swindon & Wiltshire Pride Triumphs Over Flagpole Vandalism

Swindon & Wiltshire Pride faced an unexpected setback as they prepared to raise the Pride flag in the heart of Swindon Town Centre to symbolise the start of Pride Month.

The flagpole, unfortunately, had been vandalised, posing a hurdle to their plans. Despite this disappointing turn of events, the community rallied together to find a solution.

Regrettably, Swindon Borough Council was unable to assist in raising the Pride flag on one of their buildings due to an outdated “flag policy” that prevented such displays. However, the determined efforts of Councillor Jim Robbins proved to be a game-changer.

Upon hearing about the outdated policy, Councillor Robbins swiftly took action and successfully overturned a long-standing obstacle that had been a point of contention for years. In a remarkable turn of events, the policy was reversed within a mere 12 hours.

Phoenix Stewart, the spokesperson for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, expressed their gratitude, stating, “Councillor Jim Robbins managed to overturn something we have been fighting against for years in the span of just 12 hours!”

Although the original plan to raise the Pride flag on the vandalised flagpole could not be realised, the community’s resilience and the swift action of Councillor Robbins ensured that Swindon & Wiltshire Pride’s message of acceptance and equality would not be silenced. The determined spirit of the community serves as a testament to their unwavering commitment to celebrating and supporting LGBTQ+ individuals.
