Swindon’s GWR Park, a site once renowned for the historic Children’s Fete, saw another remarkable chapter added to its storied history as it hosted Swindon & Wiltshire Pride on Saturday, 10th August 2024.
This year’s celebration of diversity, inclusion, and love attracted an impressive crowd of 10,000 people, marking the event’s relocation to a larger space due to growing demand.

The day began with a vibrant Pride March, where 1,000 people made their way from Regent Circus through Swindon’s town centre, singing and dancing in a joyful procession towards the main event in GWR Park. The park itself became a sea of colour and music as attendees gathered for a packed programme of entertainment, headlined by performances from pop stars Sonia and The Cheeky Girls, as well as drag sensation The Royal Serenity.
As the day drew to a close in the park, the festivities continued at Battle Boom Bar for the official After Party. The evening was topped off by a Beyoncé tribute act, the ever-popular drag artist Dixie Normous, and DJ Nemz, bringing the celebrations to a rousing conclusion.
Andy Midwinter, Press Manager for Swindon & Wiltshire Pride, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying, “We are so touched by the reaction we’ve received. It was heartwarming to see our fans come with us to our new home and fall in love with the venue as much as we have.”

Paul Stewart, Chairperson of the organising committee, highlighted the pivotal role volunteers played in making the event a success: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Swindon & Wiltshire Pride. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gave their time and energy to help create a vibrant, inclusive event where everyone can be themselves.”
With support from main sponsor Nationwide Building Society and partners such as South Swindon Parish Council, Swindon & Wiltshire Pride continues to grow in stature and significance. This year’s success is a clear indication of the community’s desire to celebrate diversity, and organisers are already looking ahead to next year.
While GWR Park’s history is steeped in tradition, this year’s Pride event feels like the beginning of a new chapter for Swindon’s annual celebration of equality and unity, drawing on the past while building a future of inclusivity.
