Eastcott Veterinary Referrals, a renowned animal hospital in Swindon, has recently enhanced its neurology team with the addition of a distinguished specialist who will spearhead its service.
Tom Shaw, a respected European and RCVS specialist, has taken on the role of Head of Neurology at the Linnaeus-owned facility in Swindon. Tom previously worked at another Linnaeus-owned hospital, the Willows Veterinary Centre and Referral Service in Solihull.
With a primary focus on utilising 3D printing technology to tackle complex issues in spinal surgery, Tom said: “I’m delighted to have joined such a highly regarded and experienced team at Eastcott, and to have the opportunity to provide patients with a high level of care.
“Eastcott houses state-of-the-art facilities which ensure we can provide precise diagnosis for neurological treatments and procedures.”
Tom embarked on his veterinary career after graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in 2011.
Noteworthy accomplishments include completing a rotating internship in the United States, pursuing a residency in neurology and neurosurgery at Bristol University, obtaining the European Diploma in Veterinary Neurology, and becoming an RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Neurology.
His innovative contributions extend to the development of titanium-printed systems for kyphotic spinal malformations, laminoplasty procedures, and atlantoaxial instability.
Additionally, he has a keen interest in neuro-oncology, Chiari-like malformation/syringomyelia, and surgical procedures of the caudal fossa and fourth ventricle, having published and presented extensively on these subjects at international conferences.
Kieran Borgeat, the clinical director at Eastcott, expressed delight at welcoming Tom to lead their neurology team.
“We are delighted to welcome Tom to lead our neurology team.” he said.
“Tom’s appointment supports the demand we’ve seen for the treatment of patients with neurological disorders, many of whom benefit from Eastcott’s advanced diagnostic procedures and facilities including MRI and CT imaging.”
