As winter approaches, the Trussell Trust, boasting the UK’s most extensive food bank network, anticipates distributing over 1 million emergency food parcels between December and February. Simultaneously, FareShare is grappling with a waiting list of more than 1,500 frontline charities seeking food.

Swindon customers are encouraged to participate by donating long-life food items during the collection. Contributions for the Trussell Trust will assist in providing emergency food parcels to those in need, while FareShare will utilize donations to support local charities and community groups. Tesco is seeking volunteers to man collection points in stores, raising awareness of the significant impact each contribution will make for those relying on Trussell Trust and FareShare for sustenance.

In an era where donations are more critical than ever, with one in five Trussell Trust food parcels originating from Tesco and its customers, the call for community involvement is resounding. Trussell Trust Chief Executive Emma Revie emphasized the crucial role volunteers play in sustaining local food banks, stating, “By volunteering at the Tesco Winter Food Collection, you will not only be helping to gather much-needed donations to keep your local food bank going, but you’ll also be making a real difference to families who cannot afford the essentials in your community. If you can spare a few hours to volunteer, then please do.”

George Wright, Chief Executive at FareShare, anticipates rising needs as people grapple with affordability issues. He expressed gratitude for Tesco’s unwavering support, stressing the vital role volunteers play in the success of the Tesco Food Collection each year.

Claire De Silva, Head of Community at Tesco, echoed the sentiment, acknowledging the generosity of customers during the Winter Food Collection. She urged individuals to sign up and contribute their time to help make a significant difference.
