Shoppers in Swindon are once again stepping up to support a crucial initiative aimed at tackling the challenges posed by food allergies.
For the fifth consecutive year, Tesco stores across the town are collaborating with The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation to promote a week-long fundraising effort from 22 to 28 April.
The fundraising campaign sees the retailer donating 10p from every purchase of Tesco’s own-brand “Free From” products. These products are crafted to exclude common allergens while still delivering on taste and quality. Customers also have the option to contribute further by rounding up their total at self-service tills throughout the week.
This year’s initiative not only seeks to raise funds but also aims to bolster awareness about food allergies and the importance of clear labelling of allergens in food products. Such efforts are vital in educating the public on the potential dangers of allergic reactions and promoting safer consumption choices.
Oonagh Turnbull, Head of Health Campaigns at Tesco, expressed her enthusiasm for the ongoing partnership. “The progress made by Natasha’s Foundation has been remarkable,” she stated. “We are proud to support their efforts in bringing about change and raising awareness. We encourage everyone in Swindon to try our Free From range or simply round up their bill at our tills to contribute to this worthy cause.”
The charity at the heart of this campaign, The Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, was established by Tanya and Nadim Ednan-Laperouse. The couple was driven to action by the heart-wrenching loss of their daughter Natasha, who tragically passed away after an allergic reaction to an undeclared allergen in a prepackaged meal. Since its inception in 2019, the foundation has been a frontrunner in advocating for significant research into food allergies and improvements in allergen labelling laws.
Reflecting on the support from Tesco, Tanya Ednan-Laperouse OBE remarked, “The continuous support from Tesco has been instrumental in our ongoing quest for better allergen management and research. Each year, thanks to the contributions raised, we’ve been able to further our research efforts, moving closer to a safer future for those affected by food allergies.”
As the campaign week approaches, Swindon residents are encouraged to partake in this meaningful cause, helping to fund the research that could lead to groundbreaking advancements in allergy management and prevention.
