As part of British Science Week last week, Swindon schools immersed their pupils in captivating experiments centered around the concept of time, sparking curiosity and scientific exploration.
Bridlewood Primary School took a fascinating journey into the realm of time, with pupils delving into various experiments and projects. From unraveling the mysteries of light’s passage through translucent materials to measuring the gas content in fizzy drinks, each activity offered a glimpse into the intricate workings of time.

A highlight of the week was the Bridlewood British Science Week poster competition, themed around ‘Time,’ where budding artists from Reception to Year 6 showcased their creativity and scientific understanding.
Meanwhile, at Red Oaks Primary School, every class dedicated an afternoon to unraveling the secrets of time. From planting seeds and observing their growth to scrutinizing the school’s infrastructure for potential improvements over time, pupils engaged in hands-on activities that bridged theoretical knowledge with real-world applications.
Sundial crafting sessions and lessons on telling time using the sun added an element of practicality to the learning experience, empowering children to connect scientific concepts with everyday life.
In addition to scientific exploration, pupils were encouraged to challenge stereotypes in science by envisioning and drawing their interpretations of a scientist, fostering creativity and breaking down barriers.
British Science Week serves as a platform for young minds to not only delve into the wonders of science but also to question, innovate, and reshape perceptions, laying the groundwork for future generations of scientific inquiry.
