A Swindon Police Community Support Officer is cutting off 14ins of her hair to support a charity which creates wigs for children with cancer and other hair loss conditions.
PCSO Danielle Hindmarsh, who works in the Moredon area of Swindon, is also raising money for the Little Princess Trust at the same time, in the hope that she can also pay for a wig to be made.
She said: “I’m supporting the Little Princess Trust because they do some amazing things.
“They not only create beautiful real hair wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatments or other conditions but they also fund organisations involved in researching the causes of paediatric cancer.
“Cancer is something that is affecting my family at the moment, so I understand how important their research is.”
She added: “The cost of making a wig is around £550 so it is my goal to get as close to this as possible. I’m hopeful that they will be able to use my hair donation to make a child happy and give them a boost of confidence.”
PCSO Hindmarsh had originally planned to cut her hair on 31 March, but due to the lockdown it had to be delayed.
She now hopes to be able to have the chop this Saturday (4 July), and will be taking off 14ins, leaving her with a chin-length haircut.
