Despite announcing jobs losses and five store closures customers of Waitrose in Swindon and Marlborough will not see their stores affected.
The supermarket bosses have said 498 staff would face redundancy consultation amid plans to close five under-performing stores, with no impact on Swindon or Marlborough.
There is also to be a further 180 roles lost in the coming years as the company undergoes a restructure of management roles which will most likely affect the lion’s both of the local stores.
Waitrose retail director Ben Stimson said: “We’d always try hard to avoid closing branches but we review how our shops are doing commercially and respond where we have to.
“We’ll be consulting with our branch partners on these proposed closures and will make sure they have all the support they need.”
The stores set to close are:
Bircherley Green Shopping Centre in Hertford
Two Rivers Shopping Centre in Staines
Portland Street in Leek,
St Benedict’s Court in Huntingdon
Queen Street in Cardiff
