Swindon Borough Council Unveils Swindog Sculpture for Big Dog Art Trail

Councillors were treated to a special preview of Swindon Borough Council’s Swindog sculpture ahead of the upcoming Big Dog Art trail this summer.

Led by Cabinet Member for Culture, Art and Heritage, Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, a group of councillors including Council Leader Councillor Jim Robbins, Councillors Janine Howarth, Paul Dixon, and Adorabelle Shaikh, gathered to witness the completed balloon dog art sculpture that will be displayed outside the Civic Offices.

The sculpture, decorated by local artist Judy Guillery (known as Judee Tree Art on social media), remained partially concealed during the visit, adding to the anticipation for the official trail next month.

Judy, accompanied by her own adorable Cavapoo named Smudge, shared the inspiration behind her vibrant artwork. Titled ‘Love Grows,’ “It’s a great honour not only to have my design chosen for the trail, but to be selected by Swindon Borough Council.

“My dog is named ‘Love Grows’ and since it will be situated where people come to register new babies and marriages, it seems very appropriate. I’m really hoping while making that visit, they stop for a photo!”

Councillor Strinkovsky expressed her excitement for the town-wide celebration of art, praising Judy’s work on the Swindog sculpture, which will be displayed prominently outside the Civic Offices. “It was inspiring to meet Judy and to see her work on the Swindog that will be placed outside our very own Civic Offices.

“The dogs we were shown today were beautiful, clever and inspirational, you really couldn’t choose a favourite – so make sure you follow the trail and see them all when they are installed!

“The trail has already inspired artists here in Swindon and beyond, as well as school children and local community groups. It will leave a great legacy for the town and raise lots of money for Julia’s House, which is such a crucial charity.”

The Big Dog Art Trail, organised by Julia’s House children’s hospice and global art producer Wild in Art, will run from July 15th to September 3rd.

This much-anticipated event has already sparked artistic inspiration among local artists, school children, and community groups. It not only promises to leave a lasting legacy for the town but also aims to raise vital funds for the crucial charity, Julia’s House.
