Rachel Delahaye Brings Dark Humour and Literary Inspiration to Noremarsh Junior School

The literary corridors of Noremarsh Junior School echoed with excitement as acclaimed children’s author Rachel Delahaye paid a special visit.

The author of the captivating book ‘When Frankie Made a Human’ engaged Year 6 students in an interactive workshop, immersing them in the world of dark Halloween-themed humour.

The collaborative efforts between Rachel and the Noremarsh children turned the workshop into a celebration of ‘sillyness,’ where they collectively embraced the notion of making fun of fears. Unleashing the power of imagination, the young minds at Noremarsh breathed life into the character ‘Dave Bob the gauger.’ With his ridiculously low voice and a tuxedo in tatters, the children demonstrated how the application of dark humour can magically transform the frightening into the comical.

Zombies with bad breath and spiders sporting silly faces became the stars of the workshops, where Rachel’s infectious creativity had the children’s imaginations soaring. One proud student exclaimed, “I have been making my own comics and love to use dark humour.”

Hilary Macmeekin Headteacher at Noremarsh Junior School went on to say “Reading is such an important part of our curriculum. Having set myself the goal of reading my height in books by the end of the year, I have already surpassed my goal and am now working to reach the top of the wall. This challenge gives me the opportunity to discover new books to recommend to children at Noremarsh.

“Rachel is an incredible author and her books are a favourite amongst the children, so we were very excited to have her visit. I love the diversity of her books from dark humour to thought-provoking dystopian novels, there is something for everyone. I would highly recommend them. We are really lucky to have had Rachel in school with us, working with a published author like this is an inspiration for our children and the writing they produced with her and from her workshop was rich and darky funny. I really enjoyed sharing their work”
