The Barnfield area of town will have another 35,000 square feet of retail space over two units once building work has been completed on the area adjacent to the Thamesdown bus depot.
Plans are approved for two new retail units which dwarf the neighbouring discount supermarket although there will be minimal additional parking spaces for shoppers.
Attracting additional shoppers to this area of tow will do nothing to help the current congestion problems which were hoped to have been alleviated with the re-modelling of Bruce Street Bridges.
On the plus side this is a further jobs boost to the town following the news that Wilko are expanding over into the Greenbridge Retail Park.
