At first glance this looks like a wildflower meadow, but it’s actually the busy roundabout at Kembrey Park.
Along with the roundabout on Elgin Drive, it’s been treated to a floral meadow makeover, thanks to a national scheme funded by the philanthropic arm of the car rental firm Enterprise Rent-a-Car.
The seed mixes used on the roundabouts will provide long-lasting displays of colour over several months, and have been developed to flower year on year with the minimum of care, saving the council money in maintenance costs.
Enterprise engaged one of the world’s leading experts in planting design and technology, Professor Nigel Dunnett from the University of Sheffield, to design each location. The roundabouts were then planted by Pictorial Meadows, which has pioneered the commercial development of hardy flower seed mixes that create the effect that is now being seen by thousands of Swindon drivers every day.
