Jim Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, has announced his participation in this year’s Longevity Games, which takes place on Saturday 18th May at Swindon Harriers Athletics Track.
Far from making token gestures, Jim is donning his trainers and getting involved – not just talking the talk, but walking the walk. His decision to enter the event is being hailed by event organisers as a strong act of leadership that puts health, inclusion, and grassroots engagement at the heart of his role.
The Longevity Games, now a much-anticipated fixture on Swindon’s wellbeing calendar, aims to bring together people of all ages and fitness levels in a fun, friendly, and accessible setting. With its focus on participation over performance, the event is tailored to encourage residents to explore physical activity in a way that suits them.
A spokesperson for the Longevity Games shared:
“This isn’t about standing on the sidelines. It’s about showing up. And Jim’s doing just that. When local leaders take part, it tells the whole town that no matter your background or ability, there’s always a place for you here.”
With entries due to close on Saturday 4th May, organisers are urging the public to follow Jim’s example and get involved. Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone returning to fitness, the Longevity Games offers a warm welcome and a chance to build both confidence and community.
As Jim Robbins leads the way with action over words, the message is clear: a healthier, more connected Swindon starts with each of us taking that first step.
