Swindon’s vibrant artistic community is gearing up for another exciting edition of Swindon Open Studios (SOS), with registration set to open on April 22nd.
This annual celebration marks its 20th anniversary, inviting both seasoned artists and newcomers to showcase their talents to the public.

Since its inception, SOS has been a cornerstone of Swindon’s cultural landscape, attracting over 100 artists in 2023 alone. This year’s event, scheduled for the weekends of September 21st, 22nd, 28th, and 29th, promises a unique opportunity for art enthusiasts to explore studios, homes, and exhibition spaces, gaining insight into the creative process firsthand.
Karis Rose, a participant in 2022, lauded SOS as a platform for artists at all levels. “I owe Swindon Open Studios a lot,” she expressed, “as I wouldn’t be where I am now without them, and I made friends along the way.”
For artists curious about joining SOS, an informal Q&A session awaits on Thursday, May 2nd, at Swindon Rugby Club. The committee will demystify the process and address any queries, welcoming all without the need for prior booking.
The SOS website serves as a valuable resource, offering insights from past participants like Karis, venue options for those unable to host at home, and a newsletter sign-up for timely updates.
Applications are open to visual artists aged 18 and above residing or working within a 15-mile radius of Swindon. Registration closes on May 31st at midnight, beckoning creatives to seize this opportunity to showcase their work to a diverse audience.
