Britain set to have a fifth of the month’s rainfall tomorrow

Weather warning is in place as the UK is set to be colder than Iceland when the ‘Beast from the East’ sweeps in with -5C winds.

Tomorrow Britain will be battered with a week’s worth of rain in just one day before temperatures then plummet towards the end of the week as the Siberian storm moves in.

The Met Office have said that up to 20mm of rain and gusts of up to 60mph could hit the UK as an area of low pressure moves in from the Atlantic this weekend.

Experts have also warned of freezing winds and wintry showers later in the week when cold air moves in from Siberia, bringing with it the coldest temperatures of the winter.

Temperatures are expected to drop from Thursday and will feel as low as -5C in Swindon, Wiltshire, in comparison to Iceland who will be 6C on Thursday.

Meteorologists say the West of England and Wales is set to see the worst of the wet weather as people return to work and school after the weekend before it moves slowly eastward.

Forecaster Emma Sillitoe said: “It will be heavy rainfall for the day and it will affect most of the country as the rain will be moving slowly eastwards.”
She said 15 to 20mm of rainfall is expected on Monday where the long term local average is about 100mm for February.
“It is about a fifth of rainfall for the month in one day,” she said.

The rain is set to move away by Tuesday but it will linger around the east coast.
