After surviving a life-threatening bungee-jump fall and narrowly missing out on a Guinness World Record last year, Mike Land is back and more determined than ever to pull off his dream — quite literally.
On Monday, November 4, at midday, the Swindon-based branding expert will begin his 24-hour van-pulling challenge, aiming to break the current world record of 32 miles (51.5 km) by hauling a 1.5-tonne van as far as possible within a day.
Last year’s attempt was hampered by an uneven outdoor surface, but this time, thanks to Indurent, one of the UK’s leading developers and operators of industrial and logistics space, Mike’s record bid will take place indoors — inside Indurent’s vast 343,754 sq ft industrial unit near Chippenham, just off M4 junction 17.
“I am hugely grateful to Indurent for allowing me to use their venue for the van pull,” said Mike. “Being indoors on a flat surface will make all the difference — and this time, I’m confident that I can pull it off!”
Fundraising for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance
Mike’s challenge isn’t just about breaking records — it’s about giving back. He hopes to raise £15,000 for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance, a charity close to his heart.
A prolific fundraiser, Mike has raised thousands for good causes since surviving a near-fatal bungee jump decades ago, when his rope snapped mid-air. Doctors once feared he would never recover, but his resilience and determination have seen him conquer countless physical challenges — from abseiling down Portsmouth’s Spinnaker Tower to running marathons dressed as Captain America.
“This challenge is about pushing myself, but also about supporting an incredible charity that saves lives every day,” said Mike. “I’ve had fantastic support from local businesses and my networking community, who’ve been sharing my story and helping me spread the word.”
Local Businesses Step Up
Indurent has thrown its support behind Mike’s latest effort.
Carys Allen, Development Director at Indurent, said:
“We’re thrilled to support Mike’s world record attempt by opening the doors to one of our largest buildings. We’re used to helping businesses find spaces for success, but hosting a challenge like this is something truly special. We’re rooting for Mike to smash the record and raise ‘shed loads’ of money for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance!”
Additional local businesses have also joined in — with Scarrotts Van & Minibus Centre in Royal Wootton Bassett providing the van, and Aura Signs creating the custom branding.
