Swindon MP’s, Sir Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson, have welcomed news that the Government has chosen to establish a DWP Universal Credit Review Team within the town, creating over 600 new jobs.
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is committed to reducing the number of fraud and error payments associated with Universal Credit (UC).
The surge in the rate of fraud and error, particularly in cases deemed higher risk such as those involving self-employment, has prompted the creation of the new unit.
Changes implemented during the Covid pandemic have also contributed to the upward trend of discrepancies in cases of fraud and those where claimants are being underpaid.
In response to these challenges, a comprehensive claim review process has been incorporated into the UC service which will see case handlers in Swindon examine claims that are at risk of being incorrect.
602 new jobs are being created at Polaris House in the town centre with the recruitment process starting this week.
Sir Robert Buckland and Justin Tomlinson MP jointly stated: “We are delighted that the Conservative Government has made this major investment in Swindon.
“This is yet another show of confidence in our town, which is already home to the Government-funded Research Councils, and we are pleased to be helping to secure more high-skilled roles.
“We would encourage anyone who wants to start an exciting Civil Service career to apply.”
