With running races postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, two Swindon runners who had been training for the Brighton marathon took up a new challenge last week.
Phillip McDonough and George Webb had originally planned raise money for Bowel & Cancer Research but with the race postponed looked to hit the streets of Swindon to raise funds.
Setting themselves a target of 78.6 miles in a week, the length of three marathons, they planned on 11 miles each day finishing with 15 miles on Sunday.
The Swindonians, who have raised over £3,200 via a JustGiving page, chose the Bowel & Cancer Research charity after losing loved ones to bowel cancer.
On their crowdfunding page Phillip said: “My dad died at the age of just 50yrs old suffering with bowel cancer and it spread to other parts , he was a great man always laughing till the end , so if I can give something back to help others that will be amazing.”

Upon completing their challenge, McDonough and Webb both said it was the toughest challenge they have completed.
“This was the toughest challenge we have ever done but the most rewarding.“
If you would like to make a donation the JustGiving page is still open here.
