A Swindon man has been jailed after he pleaded guilty to vehicle interference.
Michael McDonagh, 44, of Station Road, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on 15th October.
At approximately 9.30pm on 13th October, police received a report from a member of the public that a man had been seen walking around the Old Walcot area trying car door handles in various streets. Response officers attended promptly and arrested McDonagh.
McDonagh was also an outstanding suspect for a previous incident of vehicle interference on 11th September in the same area.
He was charged with the offences and remanded to be in front of the next available court.
At Swindon Magistrates Court, he was sentenced to eight weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
PC Fraser Conway said, “We’d like to thank the witnesses who reported this to the police and then continued to follow the suspect until the police arrived where they then pointed him out to officers.
“If you see anybody acting suspiciously in your local community, including anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please call 101 or 999 if the crime is in progress.”
