Swindon resident Ryan Baverstock, 24, of Bowleymead, Eldene, has been handed a three-year driving ban after being caught drug driving.
The incident occurred on August 11th last year when Baverstock was intercepted by officers on Groundwell Road, Swindon.
Following a roadside drug wipe test, Baverstock was arrested on suspicion of drug driving. Subsequently, he faced additional charges for possession of a controlled Class B drug, specifically cannabis, following a search.
Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 13th February, Baverstock pleaded guilty to both offences. In addition to the driving ban, he was fined £150 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £48, along with court costs amounting to £85.
PC Brewster, from the Roads Policing Unit, emphasised the severity of the offence, saying, “I hope this disqualification serves as a lesson to Baverstock that you should never get behind the wheel of a vehicle while under the influence of drink or drugs.
“Drink and/or drug driving are one of the fatal five offences – which are the five offences most likely to contribute to a serious or fatal collision on our roads.
“We will continue to patrol Wiltshire’s roads and clamp down on those who are putting themselves and others at risk by drink and drug driving.”
