Swindon man caught driving at 135mph on the M4 banned from driving for just 90 days

A Swindon man caught driving almost twice the legal limit on the M4 has appeared in court where he received a 90 day ban from driving.

Daniel Stewart, 34, of Strouds Close, was clocked driving a BMW 440I Sport at 135mph on the M4 near to Chippenham shortly before midnight on May 26th last year by a Roads Policing Officer.

PC Steve Harding said: “Stewart was driving at almost twice the legal limit when he was caught – this is completely unacceptable.

“Although the M4 appeared to be relatively clear at the time, there can be various hazards on the motorway at this time of night, ranging from wildlife in the carriageway to obstructions such as damage to the road surface or debris from HGVs.

“If presented with any type of hazard, Stewart would never have been able to stop safely or be able to safely take avoiding action, putting his life and the lives of other road users at risk.”
