The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership (SHAP) has this week dispatched a truckload of crucial medical supplies from their warehouse in Station Road Industrial Estate, destined for Ukraine.
In the wake of Russia’s invasion, SHAP, with the help and generosity of the Swindon public, has collected, sorted, and delivered over 1,000 tonnes of aid, providing much-needed assistance to those on the front lines.

They have sent many shipments of donations, transformed a donated bus into a field hospital, and are now focused on supplying essential medical goods, including wheelchairs, mattresses, and crutches, to support the ongoing war effort.
Volunteers, including Nick and Kim, joined forces to ensure the swift and efficient loading of the truck, driven by a personal connection and a deep desire to assist those in need. Their efforts, combined with the dedication of the entire partnership, aim to provide crucial support to Ukraine during these challenging times.
One of the volunteers, Nick, shared his personal motivation for lending a helping hand. “My mum’s family is from Ukraine, and she asked me to assist in this noble cause. We are hopeful that these generous donations will reach Ukraine within the next week, making a positive impact on the lives of those affected.”
Another dedicated volunteer, Kim Hunt, explained her journey toward supporting the cause. “Over the past year, I have been involved in providing assistance to Ukrainians in Royal Wootton Bassett. When I discovered the incredible work carried out by the Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership, I felt compelled to join their efforts and explore other ways I could contribute.”

Under the leadership of Chairman Mike Bowden, the organisation has established vital partnerships with the NHS, local councils, churches, and private healthcare companies. Through these collaborations, redundant hospital hardware, wheelchairs, and mobility aids have been sourced, and sorted to ensure they can be used before being dispatched.
Building upon their previous success in converting a donated bus into a field hospital, SHAP is now embarking on a new project to transform one of three recently donated buses into a children’s play bus.
This initiative aims to create a safe and engaging environment where young ones can temporarily escape the hardships of their circumstances and simply be children, fostering joy and normalcy amidst the chaos of war.
SHAP expresses its sincere gratitude to the donors for their generosity, as well as to all the volunteers and supporters who contribute their time and resources to make these projects a reality. Their collective efforts will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on the lives of countless individuals, particularly the children who will find solace and happiness within the walls of the play bus.
However, the Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership understands that its mission is ongoing and that continued support is essential. Therefore, they kindly appeal to the public for further donations, regardless of size, to sustain their efforts in supporting Ukraine’s fight against the war. Your generosity will play a pivotal role in making a tangible difference in the lives of those affected.
