A caller to a local radio station last week said “It seems the trouble in Ukraine has come to an end.”
This is a message that The Swindon Humanitarian Aid Partnership (SHAP) want to remind everyone is ‘wrong’ with everyday life in Ukraine getting more and more difficult as each day passes.
The need for donations is as great now as it was twelve months ago when Vladimir Putin ordered his troops into neighbouring Ukraine. A conflict that has caused tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and which has caused Europe’s largest refugee crisis since Word War II.
A week after a 7.8 and 7.6-magnitude earthquakes levelled areas of southern Turkey and northern Syria, the importance of the continuing need for donations to SHAP, a local humanitarian organisation, and not just a Ukrainian war charity, was underlined as it was agreed that some of the donations received would be diverted to those in need away from the war effort.
SHAP Chairman Mike Bowden said “It is not a coincidence that our organisation refers generally to Humanitarian Aid. Although our primary focus has been Ukraine we are sufficiently nimble to respond instantly to any other disaster and it is hard to imagine a more pressing need than in Turkey and Syria.”
Anyone wanting to make donations to SHAP to assist in both the Ukrainian and Turkey/Syria effors can do so by contacting Mike Bowden on 07989 494319.
