Swindon Half Marathon returns this weekend after six-year break

Swindon’s running community is lacing up for the return of the Swindon Half Marathon, presented by Voltarol, this Sunday (28 September) after a six-year absence.

Organised by RunThrough, the event will see more than 3,000 runners take on a brand-new route starting and finishing at Coate Water Country Park. The redesigned course takes in Wanborough, Badbury, and Medbourne, offering a mix of flat stretches, rolling hills, and a downhill finish — all while keeping disruption to residents and businesses to a minimum.

Local councillors, including Deputy Leader Emma Bushell and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services Paul Dixon, are joining the field to highlight Fostering Swindon and raise money for the Mayor’s charities.

Cllr Bushell said:

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to support causes close to our hearts and to showcase the brilliant community spirit here in Swindon. I’d like to wish the very best of luck to everyone taking part.”

The event supports Prospect Hospice and has been made possible through a collaboration between RunThrough, Swindon Borough Council, local authorities, volunteers, marshals, medical staff, and community groups.

To keep runners and spectators safe, road closures will be in place on Sunday morning across key parts of the route, reopening once the last runner has passed. Residents are encouraged to come out and cheer on participants along the course.

Matt Wood, Co-Founder of RunThrough, said:

“Bringing the half marathon back to Swindon after a few years away is something we’re really proud of. With local backing, a carefully designed course, and our partnership with Prospect Hospice and Voltarol, this is a day the whole town can celebrate.”

Limited entries are still available at swindonhalf.co.uk for anyone wishing to join the race.
