Swindon funerals have no ban on family members attending

Government guidelines suggest funeral ceremonies should be restricted to close family only during the coronavirus lockdown but no firm limit has been put on how many people are actually allowed to attend.

The National Association of Funeral Directors has reportedly accused local authorities of being “too heavy handed” by completely excluding mourning families from funeral services during the lockdown.

In Swindon, limits have been put in place but are still allowing family members to attend.

Speaking to the BBC, Conservative leader of Swindon Borough Council, David Renard explained, “We will allow just immediate family, where up to a maximum of 10 people can attend.

“We believe that complies with the current legislation and restrictions around movement.

“We’ve also had a look at the size of the chapel at the crematorium and we believe 10 is the number where we can adequately comply with the regulations.”
