Swindon Food Collective and Local Businesses Unite to Support Families During Half Term

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact families across Swindon, initiatives like the Swindon Food Collective are proving to be a lifeline for many in the local community. Recognising the increased demand for support, local businesses have stepped up to lend a helping hand during the half term break.

Teams from Barratt David Wilson have rallied together to deliver essential goods collected throughout the spring and summer to the Swindon Food Collective. Their generous contributions aim to replenish dwindling supplies and ensure that families in need have access to vital provisions during the school holidays.

Cher Smith MBE, manager of the Swindon Food Collective, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “For the first time in a long time, we are having to purchase high levels of stock to ensure we can feed the numbers of people coming through our doors. Knowing companies like Barratt Homes Bristol and Barratt David Wilson Homes South West are sharing news of what we do with their staff, and triggering this kind of response, makes such a difference.”

Your Holiday Starts Now

In 2023 alone, Swindon Food Collective provided assistance to almost 10,500 individuals, a quarter of whom were children. The organisation relies heavily on donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and other essentials from various sources, including churches, schools, local companies, supermarkets, and individuals. These donations are then utilised to create food boxes distributed to those in need, often referred via schools, doctors, or social workers.

Louise Ware, Sales Director for Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, highlighted the importance of supporting initiatives like the Swindon Food Collective during times of heightened need, stating, “We know that during holidays like half term when there are no school meals to rely on, the stress hits families harder than ever. Initiatives like Swindon Food Collective recognize and respect those families with the help they provide, which is why we’re really keen to offer our support.”

Andrea Pilgrim, Sales Director for Barratt Homes Bristol, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the collective impact of community support, stating, “The Swindon Food Collective shows the difference communities can make when people pull together. Something like an office collection is so simple but can add up to a big difference to a charity like this. Our teams feel it is a complete privilege to be involved.”
