Swindon Fire Station Opens Its Doors for a Day of Family Fun and Fundraising

Swindon residents are invited to an exciting open day at Swindon Fire Station this Saturday, 29th June.

The event, which runs from 11am to 4pm, promises a day filled with thrilling demonstrations, engaging activities, and a chance to contribute to a worthy cause, with all proceeds going to the Fire Fighters Charity.

The day’s schedule is packed with captivating demonstrations, including hot oil fire safety, technical rescue operations, road traffic collision extractions, and the use of the aerial ladder platform. Visitors can also receive invaluable first aid and CPR advice from South Western Ambulance Service (SWAS), adding a practical and educational element to the day’s festivities.

Your Holiday Starts Now

For those looking for a bit of nostalgia, there will be a display of vintage emergency vehicles. The Fire Service Store will offer various firefighting memorabilia, while a raffle and tombola will provide plenty of opportunities to win exciting prizes. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Children will be particularly entertained with activities such as a bouncy castle and a penalty shoot-out area hosted by Swindon Town FC’s Academy. Following positive feedback from last year, the event will also include a quiet hour from 10am to 11am for guests who may find large crowds, flashing lights, and sirens overwhelming. Limited tickets for this hour can be secured by emailing Swindonopenday@dwfire.org.uk.

Station Manager Dave Slawinski expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, “We want this to be a great day for the whole family. While raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity is important, we’ve ensured most activities are free and refreshments are affordable thanks to local business support. Last year’s open day was a great success, and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of people on Saturday!”

To ease congestion, attendees are encouraged to use public transport. However, those needing to drive can park at Holy Cross Primary School on Queens Drive or St Joseph’s College on Ocotal Road, which have kindly offered their car parks for the event.
