The role of a firefighter has changed a lot in recent years, with even more emphasis on fire prevention and community education.
While our firefighters are still called upon to put out fires when they occur, they also respond to flooding and water rescue incidents, road traffic collisions, animal rescues and alarm calls – amongst many other things.
They also help to gather risk information across the community, provide fire safety advice and help to educate people about risks and prevention.
#BeOneOfUs – Wholetime recruitment will open online on 6th November – bookmark this page so you don’t miss out!
Ahead of opening up wholetime recruitment, we are running six “have a go sessions” during October so that under-represented groups in our community, in particular women, can see what it is like to be a firefighter.
The session in Swindon will be open between 10am and 1pm on Sunday 15th October at Swindon Fire Station.
Come along for a chat, take part and find out more about the skills required to be a firefighter – #BeOneOfUs for a few hours!
If you think you want to apply, click here to download a 12 week fitness programme which will help you to meet the required levels of fitness.
