Housing Minister Dominic Raab has seen first-hand how the Conservatives are working together to provide modern, affordable homes in Swindon.
He joined the Conservative Leader of Swindon Borough Council, David Renard, to visit some of the housing projects and discuss solutions to the country’s housing need.
Mr Raab said: “The Prime Minister has made it her mission to build the homes this country needs so we can restore the dream of home ownership for people up and down the UK and that’s exactly what the Conservative team here in Swindon is delivering.
“Together we’re building a Britain that is fit for the future and our message to the next generation is this – climbing up the housing ladder is not just a dream of your parents’ past, but a reality for your future.”
The Minister was taken to Middle Wichel, which will have up to 2,700 homes being built under a joint venture with developers Barratt David Wilson, along with over 80 flats and homes being built there by the Council. The visit also included Sussex Square, where the Council has provided new, modern affordable homes, which have contributed significantly to the regeneration of the local area.
Councillor Renard said: “Across Swindon we are showing a positive, pragmatic approach to supporting those who dream of owning their own home, as well as those who are seeking affordable, rented accommodation. By May, I expect Swindon to have completed 1,500 new homes in 12 months, an increase on the previous years’ figures.
“As well as the private sector developments at Badbury Park and Tadpole Farm, the Council has built more homes for sale at Euclid Terrace and is following up the successful redevelopment of Sussex Square with the building of new homes on Queen’s Drive.”
Councillor Renard concluded: “Whether you want to buy, to rent, or to rent from the Council, only the Conservatives have policies that are delivering the homes that people want.”
