A Swindon-based business has helped improve the comfort and care of thousands of patients nationwide through a generous donation to a local non-profit. Vygon UK, a medical device manufacturer, has gifted 500 tape measures to PICC Pals, an organisation that supports patients receiving medium and long-term hospital treatments.
PICC Pals, founded in 2021, is dedicated to enhancing the experiences and outcomes of patients undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, by offering bespoke, handmade sleeves to cover Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC lines). These tubes, inserted into veins for the delivery of fluids, medication, or nutrients, can often cause discomfort and concerns over infection, damage, or aesthetics. The custom-made covers offer a practical and comforting solution.
Rosemary Weeks, a board member of PICC Pals, expressed the significance of the donation: “Our mission is to provide patients with something practical and uplifting during their treatment journeys. A well-fitted sleeve is about more than just function; it’s a way of showing patients they are supported and cared for. Many of our volunteers are or have been patients themselves, so we truly understand the stress that comes with having a PICC line.”
The tape measures donated by Vygon are essential in ensuring that each sleeve fits precisely, improving both safety and comfort for patients. The careful measuring process helps volunteers provide a perfect fit for every individual, supporting the ongoing work of this rapidly growing charity. PICC Pals has now created and distributed over 20,000 sleeves across the UK, all handmade by a dedicated team of more than 60 volunteers.
Katie Kingston, Head of Marketing and Communications at Vygon UK, said, “We are thrilled to support PICC Pals. The dedication of their team is truly inspiring, and we hope that this donation helps ensure every sleeve fits perfectly, making a real difference to patients’ lives.”
The donation will be distributed to hospital nurses and volunteers, assisting with the expansion of PICC Pals’ operations across the country.
