At the start of the day, 27 Labour, nine Conservative, and one Liberal Democrat councillors were already seated, and to form a majority, a party must secure at least 29 seats.
If the Conservatives were to form a majority they would have to take all of the seats on offer, an unlikely achievement and one that was shut down just minutes after counting started and the first results came in.
