Swindon Borough Council Introduces Safer Streets Wardens for Enhanced Community Safety

Swindon Borough Council has launched a new initiative to bolster community safety with the introduction of the Safer Streets Wardens.

Working in close collaboration with the Community Safety Team of Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, the Safer Streets Wardens primary role is to be the eyes and ears on the ground, actively deterring anti-social behaviour.

On top of this, they will also play a crucial role in responding to incidents, gathering intelligence, and providing reassurance to the public.

The presence of the wardens in key areas highlights the commitment of Swindon Borough Council to address community safety concerns and maintain a positive public image.

The Safer Streets Wardens are accredited under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme, which grants them limited policing powers. This accreditation allows the wardens to effectively contribute to maintaining community safety while working in conjunction with the local police.

It enables them to respond appropriately to incidents and provide support as necessary.

While the wardens will initially concentrate their efforts in the town centre, they will also travel to other areas within the borough, allowing them to effectively address safety concerns across the whole of Swindon.

Swindon Borough Council encourages residents to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour through their website.

Additionally, in cases of witnessing a crime being committed, it is advised to contact Wiltshire Police at 101. In emergency situations requiring immediate assistance, dial 999.
