Swindon Borough Council roads team have been busy decorating some of Swindon’s roads with ‘Thank You’ messages to the towns NHS and Key workers.

A thank you message has appeared in the right hand lane of Marlborough Road leading into the Great Western Hospital and there is another on Queens Drive outside of the ambulance station.
Councillor Maureen Penny, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and the Environment, said: “The ‘thank you’ messages for our NHS staff and key workers are just another way of showing our appreciation for their dedicated and life-saving work during this current coronavirus crisis and complement the blue illumination of Greenbridge roundabout.
“I hope the road markings bring a smile to each workers’ face on their drive into work and show them how much we value their huge contributions in these difficult times.”

A lovely gesture, but is it a good use of tax payers hard earned money? How about sorting out some of the pot holes or roads that need resurfacing instead?
Write it in chalk next time and save the taxpayers money! I love the fact that the council want to do something, but this kind of thing is ridiculously costly to do and just as costly to remove when this is all done with. If you must spend the tax payers money on supporting something worthwhile then spend it on PPE for the care homes and their staff. Just as needy as the NHS but far less catered for.
