Get ready to rev your engines and strike a pose alongside the iconic Batmobile as Swindon 105.5 gears up for its spectacular 16th-anniversary bash! Held at the DoubleTree Hilton on March 16th, 2024, this star-studded event promises an unforgettable night of glitz, glamour, and charitable giving.
Themed “Going to the Movies,” lucky ticket holders will have the chance to snap photos with the legendary Batmobile on the red carpet, adding a touch of Hollywood magic to the festivities. But this isn’t just any Batmobile – it’s a stunning creation by local artist Mark Enright, director of Podpadstudios in Rodbourne Cheney.
Podpadstudios, renowned for crafting animatronic props for film, TV, and exhibitions, pulled out all the stops to bring the Batmobile to life. Inspired by the 1995 Batman Forever film, this driveable masterpiece boasts a striking design with fully articulated fins and a flame system, reminiscent of the iconic vehicle from the silver screen.
But the creativity doesn’t stop there. Enright drew inspiration from acclaimed artist H. R. Giger, renowned for his work on the Alien franchise, infusing the Batmobile with a sinuous biomechanical aesthetic. Handmade aluminium body panels and a steampunk interior, complete with an old-fashioned batphone, add to the vehicle’s allure.
The Batmobile, crafted from a Toyota MR2, took a staggering 16 weeks to build, with meticulous planning and careful sourcing of parts ensuring its authenticity and visual impact.
Mark Enright expressed his delight at contributing to the fundraiser, stating, “Radio 105.5 is a favourite in our studio… We were happy to be able to help at this worthy fundraiser.”
Swindon 105.5, based in Liden and operated by dedicated volunteers, has long been a pillar of the community, offering local, inclusive, and accessible broadcasting services. Proceeds from the anniversary party will support the station’s continued efforts to serve the community.
