Sunday set to be hottest day so far this year, with temperatures up to 26°C

Get ready to break out the sunscreen and find some shade because tomorrow could potentially be the hottest day of the year so far, according to predictions from the Met Office.

In sheltered areas of western England, the mercury is expected to climb to a scorching 26°C, surpassing the previous record set on Tuesday 30th May when temperatures reached 25.1°C in Wales.

Forecasters are even suggesting that there is a small chance we may witness a new record high temperature for this time of year. Furthermore, the dry weather is anticipated to continue into next week, prolonging the sunny spell.

The Met Office’s Rachel Ayers, has mentioned that warmer spots can anticipate temperatures of around 24°C or 25°C. While the chances of reaching 26°C are relatively low, she noted that it is possible in certain areas, particularly in the west such as parts of Wales and maybe even southwest England.

“We’d be looking at that somewhere in the west, probably similar kind of areas, parts of Wales, maybe south-west England,” she said.

This potential record-breaking spell comes as the Met Office and the UK Health Agency, introduced a new weather alert system this week. This system aims to notify the public about potential risks to health and safety caused by extreme temperatures.

This development follows the record-breaking temperature of 40.3°C recorded in the UK last summer, highlighting the need for effective measures to safeguard public well-being during such extreme weather events.

Whatever you decide to do tomorrow, keep an eye on the weather updates and savour the possibility of experiencing the hottest day of the year so far!
