Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said there is “currently nothing in the data” to say the June 21st lockdown easing shouldn’t go ahead.
The next easing, step four and the final step of the roadmap, involves removing the six-person limit on indoor gatherings, allows nightclubs to open and sees the end of limits on crowds at mass events and attendances at weddings, and possibly the removal of guidance on social distancing, face-coverings and working from home..
The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “There still remains that there is nothing in the data currently to suggest Step 4 can’t go ahead at the earliest date.
“But we do need to look very closely at the data over this coming week.”
Health Secretary Matt Hancock is due to update the House of Commons later this afternoon on the latest data on the so-called ‘Nepal variant’ of the virus the at 3.30pm.
