Temporary changes to bus services in the West are being introduced by Stagecoach from Sunday 17th January in Swindon following the latest government advice around social contact and non-essential travel to help combat COVID-19.
During this time, the company will continue to operate all services across the town, with the frequency of some routes reduced where necessary. The transport company has been working closely with local authorities to ensure it maintains the level of bus services required for essential travel by key workers.
The decision follows extensive action by bus operators to enhance cleaning regimes and protect the safety and well-being of customers and bus workers throughout the pandemic.
Rupert Cox, Managing Director at Stagecoach West, said: “The safety of our passengers and our employees is paramount. Following the latest government advice to avoid all non-essential travel, we have reviewed our timetables and made temporary changes which reflect the reduced level of travel by the community.
“We are working hard to maintain essential services as we know that our operations play a vital role in keeping Swindon running and ensuring key sector personnel get to work. We will continue to monitor the position, liaise closely with government and local authorities, and respond as appropriate to what continues to be an ever-changing situation.”
Throughout the course of the pandemic, Stagecoach has implemented a number of new procedures and policies designed to keep passengers safe, including additional hygiene measures to protect passengers, frontline bus workers and office-based staff. Social distancing measures remain in place across all services and passengers are required to wear facemasks at all times unless they are medically exempt.
